Do you have an itty bitty kitty? Our feline friends come in many different sizes. Although breed isn’t the only thing that affects Fluffy’s physiology, it definitely does play a role. Read on as a local Pasadena, MD vet lists some of the smaller cat breeds.
All cats are cute when they are kittens, but Munchkins are almost impossibly adorable. These sweet little furballs were actually named after the iconic and beloved Wizard of Oz characters. Their bodies aren’t really much smaller than the average kitty, but they have very low shoulders and short legs.
This charming little feline first emerged in Russia back in the 80’s, and is often considered to be the world’s smallest cat. Fluffy has a short, kinked tail, and rarely grows beyond the size of the average 6 month old kitten. Toybobs can come in a variety of colors, but they often have markings similar to that of a Siamese, another cute kitty on our list. They are very cuddly and affectionate, and have a way of getting their humans to pamper them.
These kitties pack a lot of personality into pretty small packages. The average Singapura rarely weighs over 5 pounds. Cuddly and lovable, the Singapura officially sports a coloring known as ticked tabby. They are active and playful, and love to climb to high vantage spots. (This makes sense, as they don’t have a great view from ground level.
Like the Toybob, the American Curl was born in the 80’s. The breed’s lineage is unknown: they trace back to a stray with unusual (and adorable) folded ears. Another fun fact about the American Curl? Their vocalizations sound more like coos than meows. These charming kitties are very playful and inquisitive, and tend to get into, well, everything.
Last but not least, we have the Siamese. These cats have several unique qualities and, while they are small in stature, they have pretty big purrsonalities. Siamese cats are known for being very cuddly and vocal. A native of Thailand, formerly known as Siam, they were once favorites of the Siamese royals. They’ve been appearing in literature for hundreds of years, and are even mentioned in an ancient manuscript, the Tamra Maew, or Cat Book Poems.
